Re: Erratic Idle RPM
The VIN change point for MEMS 3 was 522572, (or 522577) yours at 522563 was only just before that and I do not believe MG Rover records or production schedules were stunningly accurate.... You should have MEMS 2J. (They were all "2J") The visible difference between VVC on MEMS 2J and MEMS 3 is the o...

Re: 2002 tf exhaust
I think there is a bit of a myth about what the valve on the exhaust does, and any affect on performance. It was only there to pass the 'Drive By' noise test of the time. Engineers were told the test had to be passed so made it pass, the same way the VW engineers made diesel engines pass the emissio...

Re: MGF engine management light comes on and stays on
Hi, You really need to a better fault code than just a general emissions fault to work with. A professional code reader or Pscan for DIY should give you a close indication of what is causing the EML to trigger. the P??? code will point to something like Misfire Cylinder 1, Catalyst Below Efficiency ...

Re: Temp gauge and Tacho died
It may depend on what F or TF it is. On later MG TF the Tacho and Temp Gauge in instrument cluster are on Fuse 25 (10 amp). This also powers fuel gauge, speedometer and warning lights. If fuse is ok any everything else in instrument cluster is working then it may be track/joint in instrument gone ba...

Re: Gearbox differential oil seals (PG1)
From DMGRS Early PG1 Gearbox Differential Seal - LH - TRX100110 / TRX100110SLP This is the 'all rubber' seal used on all early MG Rover PG1 gearboxes - usually up to around 1996 however some later cars (mainly conversions etc) also use these. The driveshafts that fit into these seals have a less pro...

Re: Gearbox differential oil seals (PG1)
Hi,
Just to update this excellent post, I believe that the part numbers are the wrong way round,
Late seals are TRX100060 and UNG100060
Early seals are TRX100100 and TRX100110
eg

Just another view of the PG1 gearbox with low ratio gears and Torsen diff. The most fun FWD car I have driven is my Rover 200 BRM with that gearbox mated to the VVC engine. The way it pulls its way through tight corners always makes me grin .

Re: Oil Temp. Warning Light
The oil temperature warning lamp (LED) is connected to to both the Oil Temperature Gauge and the Oil Temperature Sender. The sender is the one next to the oil filter. It seems to need the resistance of the OEM Oil Temperature Gauge to work. If you disconnect the NU (Brown/Blue) wire from the oil gau...

Hi,
Going back to the reverse sensors, they were OEM fit on LE500 and 85th, three sensors and have an x-part numbers. Kit can be retrofitted to other SAIC TF's
Part Number MG TF LE500 - XPT000400 Rear Sensor Fitting Kit
400000333 Transducer (3)
400000334 Control Unit (1)
Cheers, Mark

Re: Key and alarm fob info please?
Hi TedTF85, I concur with ArntyR that Technozen is the place to go. Can replace relays in SCU that seems a case of when, not if, they will fail. At the same time he can configure the SCU the way you wish, Superlocking on or off, Speed activated locking, One shot drivers window etc. About £50 ish . H...

Re: Is DAB any good in the TF?
I got mine last year from dabonwheels.co.uk. It was a Calearo DAB/DAB+/FM/AM Aerial 60 degree mount with 5 meter cable.
Straight swap for standard aerial, same angle, same hole. Wished I had just gone straight to it rather than wasting money / time on cheaper options that when in bin.
Cheers Mark

Re: Is DAB any good in the TF?
Hi, I have gone the DAB route in my TF and as mgtfnut said the reception and which stations are available depend on your location. Towns and cities are well covered but I am out in the sticks. I had tried DAB/FM splitter on original antenna and stick on windscreen type but signal was not good apart ...

Re: Alternator fail - no battery warning light?
Could be a few things. I am assuming charging light comes when you turn ignition on and goes off when you start car. (If not, bulb blown :D easy fix) On some cars you need a working warning light to excite the alternator field to start charging, so no warning light when ignition is on may mean no ch...

Hi,
That code is an O2 sensor circuit malfunction ( Bank 1 Sensor 1)
Unplug it and it should run in open loop mode without MIL light if it is faulty ( Runs a bit rich. O2 sensors are mainly emissions related)
Cheers Mark

Re: TF clutch - free pedal play
Hi, When I had a some play in clutch pedal and it turned out to be clutch release lever sticking a bit along with rusty cotter pin. A bit of oil on release lever and grease on cotter pin and was much better. I was expecting it to have been hydraulic issue so was pleasantly surprised when it worked. ...

Re: P0601and ECM
Hi Richard A, To give you some hope, I also had that code/MIL when I changed the battery. Used P-scan to reset it and it never came back. If it is running OK and no other applicable codes then I would be putting it down to low voltage issue. If it is only a pending code so may only have happened onc...

Re: Engine Management Light
Hi, Do not think you have remote boot release. The two cables going into your catch are one cable from key lock to open, and one wire boot open warning. The Chinese MG TF with boot release have a solenoid and cable running to it mounted on the catch. Your key fob is a replacement intended for a late...
