Definitive info on Freelander wiper motor
There seems to be no clear opinion on using the Freelander wiper motor DLB10153. Depending on where you look either: i) You just need to swap the plugs, observing the wire colour coding. ii) Even if you do the above the will be a short to earth somewhere and you'll keep blowing fuses. Somebody even ...

Clutch master cylinder bolt turning :(
The forward mounting bolt for my clutch master cylinder is turning without coming undone. It was very tight and I suspect I have sheared the captive nut away from the panel. Can I get to this easily from inside the car or do I need to remove the panel that the master cylinder and wiper motor are mou...
Re: StepSpeed
As an alternative on the tyres I've just fitted Yokohama Advan Flevas front and back, circa £400 the lot through etyres. This tyre was developed for the MR2, another similarly sized mid-engined car. I'm very happy with the tyres, they perform well.

Re: How to fix it?
It sounds like the ECU doesn't 'know' that the engine is cold. I'd start by changing the ECU temperature sender. On my '96 car this is the brown one, the blue one drives the temperature gauge but others will need to confirm if this is the case for a 2000 car.. Both sensors are only 10-15 pounds. Wit...

Re: Brake Pad recommendations please
Brace done at the weekend :) after hacking out my old style heater air inlet. I was hoping to get it out in one piece but the threaded inserts at the front were turning in the plastic so I had to cut a flap in the front (hurrah for cordless angle grinders) to get some moles on them. I went with the ...

Standard single pot, still immensely effective though.
Yes, Mintex would have been my default choice.

Brake Pad recommendations please
Pads and discs on my 43k '96 car look ancient. They could be original. I tend to be fairly easy on my brakes though the occasional Autosolo means that there are times I need to stop hard twice in a minute or so. Any recommendations for good standard or mildly uprated pads please.

Re: Looking at purchasing a MGF
Plenty of cheap cars out there with good HGs e.g.: e.g. https://www.mgfregister.org/forum/viewt ... =9&t=26833 (now gone).
My local garage charged about 650 for timing and auxilliary belts including water pump.

Re: Car unsettled over bumps
Acid test passed, car handled beautifully on dreadful West Sussex roads and the billiard smooth Goodwood circuit. I just want slightly better turn in now.

Re: Brake random soft pedal
Massive bleeding session (best part of a litre of fluid, at leasts I have new fluid now) on Saturday, initialyl unsuccessful with the pedal method but then my cheap Amazon vacuum pump arrived and I achieved a firm pedal. 24 very hard stops at an Autosolo on Sunday and it's still OK. However, I defni...

Re: Brake random soft pedal
Another pertinent fact is I'm not a heavy breaker under normal circumstances. I prefer anticipation and balance. Whilst the old/wet fluid is a seductive theory I'd be surpised if the brakes were that hot, though I was coming down a hill when it started.

Re: Brake random soft pedal
No, my recollection is that it was like air in the system, soft/long (though not to the floor) with some breaking effort on first push and then firming up to normal on the second push.

Brake random soft pedal
I had my concerns that the brakes were too hard when I first bought the car https://www.mgfregister.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=26829&p=202970#p202970 however they improved with use (previous owner had done 700 miles in 6 years) and I've been very happy with both their efficiency and feel. However...

Re: Car unsettled over bumps
OK, splashed out on a couple of Yokohamas to match the front, and based on a ten minute test drive the car's poise is much better. I have an Autosolo at the weekend so that will be the acid test.

Re: Hood & frame cross compatibility
Thanks for the confirmation all and for the offer NaN. For the time being I'm going to pick up a cheap hood & frame combo and save the joy of fitting a hood to a frame for another day (year...decade...lifetime!).
