Re: Tyres and the MoT !
That's the answer!! :D Just as a further thought, I contacted a leading tyre fitting company in the UK (beginning with K). Their policy as stated on their website is that tyres policy should be regularly inspected from five years old due to the ageing process. Their policy is also that they can supp...

Re: Tyres and the MoT !
Apologies in advance for re-opening this topic, but I'd be interested in your thoughts on a slightly different angle to the tyre age debate. The tyres on my F (Proxes T1R) are coming up to 9 years old. They have plenty of tread and no crazing evident. Although as far as I can establish, no age limit...

Re: Starter motor failure??
Thanks for your help. I cleaned all the earth connections from end to end and when I started the car it fired immediately, and likewise for four times. Feeling pleased with my self, I tried again and the same fault occurred. :( Although it does seem slightly improved I think now that, as has been su...

Re: Starter motor failure??
Rob, it's more your last point I think. The starter motor engages momentarily, then disengages. I believe this is the case as I moved the car in first gear during the 1-2 seconds it was engaged, but then when it appears to disengage the car won't drive in this way. It just seems to be disengaging be...

Re: Starter motor failure??
I've just connected another fully charged battery in parallel with no joy. (The new battery is actually an Exide 640CCA, not that that should make any difference). When at standstill the battery voltage is 12.7V. When the motor is cranking, the voltage drops to 11.9V. I'm not sure if that's a good f...

Re: Starter motor failure??
Thanks Geoff. The battery should be fine as it's only a couple of months old and decent quality. (Bosch 630CCA). It's also fully charged. Could be a dud though of course so I'll check voltage when it's trying to start.

Starter motor failure??
Can anyone help please with a fault which occurred intermittently a few weeks ago but is now permanently on. The car refuses to start. When the key is turned the starter engages for 1-2 seconds and it feels as though the car might start. However the starter then makes the sort of noise you get if yo...

Re: Clutch St St hose
Thanks for the responses. It's not a job I need to do imminently, but stainless does seem a neat solution.
Was it a difficult job to thread through?

Clutch St St hose
Does anyone have any experience of fitting the St St clutch hose that is available and if so, was it beneficial? (It's the same hose that the replacement brake lines are made from). I know I have solid wall pipe at the master and slave cylinders but I've not traced through to see what material makes...

Re: Rattle from rear end of MGTF
Might be worth also checking the heat shields over the silencer and in the engine bay. One other thought is having a look at the charcoal canister which have been known to come loose, causing a rattling sound.

Re: gearbox removal method
RobboMC,
Thanks for the HowTo. It is, I think, somewhat out of my mechanical league right now, but never say never!! In any case, I can see the job itself was significant and the HowTo more so, so much appreciated. Before you know it I'll be removing my gearbox! (Why did I say that?!!!)

Re: Tyre pressures
To second Barrie's point, we recently had our 1.8Mpi re-gassed by the Kennedys in Telford, (hydragasandhydrolasticservice.com), and the ride is immeasurably improved. It turned from a boneshaker, (with spheres pumped full of oil), into the magic carpet ride that MGFs should have. I'd definitely reco...

Door glass adjustment instructions
With my apologies in advance if I'm being dim, can someone please help me to understand the following instruction in the manual for door glass adjustment: 5. Loosen lock-nut on adjuster A , position adjuster screw so that it is level with the back of the nut it screws in to Does it mean to wind the ...

Re: Oil cooler on Trophy
I think it could, but it would be challenging to do. (For me at least!) As it has the double bulge on the end it would be necessary to cut that section off, cut the remaining stub to size and weld the end back on. I don't have the capability to weld stainless, but in any event, the clearance to the ...

Rob, I was wondering who would be first to spot my deliberate error!!! As you say, the sizes should be the other way around.
Thanks

Re: O Ring size for Thermostat
I've now measured the O rings and the sizes are as follows: Standard Outside diameter - 40mm Thickness - 3.5mm Oversize Outside diameter - 39.9mm Thickness - 2.9mm Rob, you are right about it being a "fun" job! There are a few things I learnt doing it with the engine in: - Use a decent size mirror w...

Re: O Ring size for Thermostat
I can't answer the point on the material dimensions but the OD is certainly larger on the oversize ones. I'll measure the thickness and post back. It seems that the oversize are only required for the stainless steel pipes, although why they were not made with the same dimensions as mild steel pipes ...

OK, thanks. I don't use it on track and I've never experienced overheating so I'll leave as is then.

Re: Bell Crank Roll Pin
Many thanks for your replies. I found the parallel punch I was using just kept bouncing off so I tried a centre punch which partly fitted inside the pin. It enabled me to strike more effectively but ultimately it didn't work. Possibly this was because it was tapered and some of the effort was forcin...

Re: Bell Crank Roll Pin
Yes, copious amounts. My concern was damaging the shaft as I was hitting the pin, but I eventually shifted it yesterday evening by putting a block of wood above the pin to wedge it against the gearbox casing. This gave move impact to the pin and moved it. I should have thought of that earlier of cou...
