Re: Jiggle valve on early MGF VVC from 1995
The jiggle valves often become blocked up over time - particularly if there has ever been a head gasket event (nameless) - the ball then gets stuck and they don't jiggle. They are very easy to clean and one is very easy to access, but the inlet manifold one means removing the inlet manifold. You can...

One at the other end of the thin return feed pipe to the expansion tank and one at the inlet manifold.

Maybe try cleaning the coolant sensor connector and check the wiring back to the ECU?

Re: Handbrake cable disconnection.
There is a U shaped spring clip which sits tightly into a groove in the solid union on the cable outer. If you have removed it the union can still be held in by a mix of crap and corrosion. Wiggle it robustly!

Re: Won't start - has spark... Running out of things to try..
It won't be an airlock - which would purge either through the injectors or the rail pressure relief back into the tank if the pump is pressuring up the rail correctly. If you measured the pump voltage with a digital multimeter it probably uses an algorithm to calculate voltage before displaying it, ...

Re: Won't start - has spark... Running out of things to try..
I had a similar story on an F unused in 7 years. It turned out to be the fuel pump. You should be able to hear it for 3 seconds when first switching on the ignition. Generic replacement fuel pump motors will only work if the ageing plastic pipes can hold their pressure which is about 3 bar. I got ra...

Re: Ride heigh woes after new hydragas spheres
Broadly agree about total fluid, between 2 and 3 litres in my experience but only a ballpark guesstimate looking at what remains in a 5l container. I think the air exclusion can be done if, as Rob recommends, you don't try and lift the car on jacks to make the pumping less arduous - it prevents the ...

He was always a bit haphazard with communication, so I stopped using him years ago and learned to do it myself. I don't know the answer to your question but there are a couple of others who are well reported - John of Roughluck racing and Mike at MJS automarine. Again I don't know for a fact that th...

Re: rear fog lamps
I had similar non-latching with an early F which turned out to be the switch. I expect you don't have a spare so maybe a check on the terminals/continuity. I have a spare switch in the longer term, if needed. Dieter's website suggests blue/yellow is the rear fog supply. In the far rear left of the b...

Re: Mk 2 Coolant filling problem.
Whilst MGR regarded the waterpump as a fit-for-life item, bitter experience has led many to change it out with the cam belt. This would entail losing the coolant and having to rebleed everything yet again. If you have no idea when the belt(s with your VVC) were last done I would definitely be gettin...

When it has cooled down, where is the water level in the expansion bottle?
It is common for airlocks to disappear slowly and for small cold topping up to be necessary for a week or two (particularly after an 'enthusiastic' run!).

Re: Mk 2 Coolant filling problem.
Well done Dave - it sounds like you have cracked it. Unfortunately you now have to undo all the good work and start again with coolant mix, but you know what to do and what to expect. It doesn't sound as if you have any muck to clean out, so I am not suggesting that you do, but for interest: After a...

Re: Mk 2 Coolant filling problem.
I would have advised undoing both underfloor pipes but that is past. The closed thermostat is most likely causing your air/water lock now, which would have been a little less of a problem with both underfloor pipes open - but only a little. Also you didn't mention the heater matrix bleed screw which...

Re: Cat value
Frightening but true - I almost don't want to confirm it for the rush to scrap! Remember that when the rheumy eyed old breaker pretends he is doing you a favour offering only £150 for the whole car. He will get half that for the steel he weighs in. Each sphere is £40 and a VVC head about £300 almost...
