Hello from Herts
Hi everyone,
Just found this site, seems like a good place for MG owners .
Unfortunately my MG f is unwell and so it's for sale although I'd rather keep it really.
Had it for two years and really enjoy it in all weather's,though it's only a toy for me and I am not sure I can justify spending too much on it.
Not being a great mechanic I find it a little challenging in that department.

Hi ... Welcome to the MGF Register and our Forum
Don't sell your car if its if its not "too Poorly" and you enjoy it ... there is a wealth of knowledge and people that can help you out and get your car running and looking great again on this forum.
Where abouts are you in Herts ?? ... before you sell it why don't you come to a meet and have a chat about your car and see ours .. We are a friendly bunch and can help you if you decide to keep your car.
We meet at The Plough , Crews Hill , Enfield on the 2nd Monday of every month from 7pm onwards and you'd receive a warm welcome

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply.
Yeah I may come over to the meet, I'm near Hemel Hempstead, but would be nice to come over and see the cars and any advice would be useful.

Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for your reply and welcome.
I have put a post in another section.
The problem seems ridiculous on the surface, as on most cars it's simple.
But not on an MG it seems,
The alternator has seized and the fan belt snapped, but I cannot see how to remove the alternator and I cannot justify paying out money to get it done,as prices are stupid .
Cheers Nic

If you can Hold Fire on selling your F for two reasons
1) as said above their are so many people on this site who can give advice on any problem you may have.
2) its a crap time of year to sell a soft top.
Pop over to a H & NL monthly meet, have a chat and who knows you may even get the offer of some help to get things sorted

Hi Nic
just to let you know we will not be at the Plough for the December meet as we are going for a Christmas curry instead ... that's how radical we are
Please keep an eye on the Herts/North London section on here and you can see what we are up too
Hope to see you at a meet in the near future.

Re: Hello from Herts
Nic, access to the alternator is via the removable panel under the o/s/r wheel arch. jack the car up, secure it, remove the wheel and panel and there you are, sort of. Remove the rear section of the hood by unclipping it, remove the carpet and sound deadening material, remove the 10mm bolts and take off the panel over the engine. It's not the easiest job in the world but far easier that way.

Re: Hello from Herts
Update on issues,
Today I thought I would beat this thing but it all went Pete tonge !
I have access from the top no probs, took out top bolt, left in for now, but I don't seem to have this removable panel that is talked of, I can barely touch the lower bolt and I cannot even see the thing through the sidebar vent via fan which also blocks view .
Really annoying little car !

Re: Hello from Herts
All cars have the removable panel, it sits under the o/s/r wheel arch that's why it's best to remove the wheel then you can see it ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: Hello from Herts
Then you can see the alternator but get a TF one to put there as it will protect the unit and the belt from road dirt, water etc.

Re: Hello from Herts
On the earlier cars it was made of a sort of compressed board and didn't last, the TF version is plastic and worth sourcing.fastcar wrote:My removable panel must of been removed and not put back cos not there

Well I finally managed to find the time to make a splash guard and I have to say what a great job I did,
It only took me about an hour all in and no money at all !
Used an old lid from a recycling box ,perfect as made from a relatively soft plastic which meant I could use my heat gun to soften and bend to shape .
Surprised myself with my ingenuity
