Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Rubber bellows (gaiters) for handbrake and gear change cables.
Can anyone suggest a supplier for these rubber bellows, all of mine are badly perished and need replacing. On one of the forums someone mentioned generic ones that were very good but despite searching both the forums I cannot find the info again.

The OEM part number is ULS000012 at a cost of around £5 each and can be found at Rimmers Brown & Gammons etc. Someone on eBay is producing a rebuild kit including the ball joints.

I was advised to look on Ebay when I asked almost the same question on another Forum.
I used the supplier shown in this screen-dump, they worked fine and this supplier does not charge postage.

The trouble is, that for the gear change cables, these suppliers only supply one length - which is only suitable for one of the cables as the other one needs a longer corrugated boot... This is a long-standing problem and the manufacturer and suppliers still have not cottoned onto this problem...

Yes, I can confirm that you are correct (but you knew that anyway!Rob Bell wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 10:18 amThe trouble is, that for the gear change cables, these suppliers only supply one length - which is only suitable for one of the cables as the other one needs a longer corrugated boot... However, when I noticed that the crossgate gaiter was pulling off the tube bolt, I stopped this with a length of garden plastic coated wire, twisted to hold the neck in place. This seems to work without any down-side. Are you saying that SOME suppliers DO manufacture and/or supply gaiters with more corrugations? If so who? If not, please sir, can I patent my gaiter necktie?

I think that there is only one manufacturer who supplies everyone else - I'll have to dig up who that was, but I did feed back the problem to them to a resounding silence
The garden wire idea is excellent - same as is done on steering rack gaiters - I'll do the same based on this suggestion!

I did know about the ones on ebay but the ones that were mentioned on another forum were generic ones, I have no idea whether they were different lengths but they supposedly worked well. I was more interested in the handbrake cable boots and I am gradually making progress in my search, I have found this company; https://www.venhill.co.uk/cables-and-co ... s.html?p=2
and I will call into Rotec (a hydraulic supplies company) to see if they have anything suitable.

Do let us know how you get on!

They are about, I will keep looking until I find something that has a good chance of working;

Time is my limiting factor, I work on my MG's at my sisters farm which although cheap (free!) means a thirty mile round trip, tonight was spent repairing her air compressor (useful for me) tomorrow night fitting a new shower door, then Wednesday and Thursday evenings putting in new wheel studs and painting the front hubs prior to refitting. The weekend is up to Harpenden to see our eldest son and his family, this has an upside because I bought a new TF front wing on Ebay for £30 and collection is only an extra seven miles on our route.
