The MGF Register has been raising funds for various charities since 2006 and continues to do so. A new charity is chosen is voted for by the committee each year from a list submitted by reps and members. This gives us a wide range of causes to benefit from the Register’s support from large charities such as the RNLI to smaller local concerns such as the Norfolk Hospice.

The first charity we supported was for Prostate Cancer Awareness which was run by the late Gary Steele MBE and was a small charity at that stage. Gary joined in with the club as did the MGF racing driver Martin Wills at the first charity event “eFing the Bridges”. This was a road run around the Bristol bridges including both Severn crossings ending up at Dyrham Park near Bath. It was the first attempt at fundraising and we were able to give the charity over £600 as a result.

Since then the Register has supported 13 other different charities and for the first time we will be carrying a charity over a two year period due to Covid 19. For 2020 and 2021, therefore, the charity supported will be Young Minds.

To date the Register’s members have raised over £25,000 for charity and we look forward to being able to raise much more in the future.

We’ll be adding archive details of those charity events to this page.

The charities the register has supported are:-

2020/ 21 Young Minds
Restrictions on events have meant that any charity fundraising has been very difficult due to COVID-19. The decision was taken to extend the Young Minds charity into 2021 in the hope that we could hold more events to raise funds. This proved difficult as the pandemic continued into a second year as well. However, the Register still raised £1497.78 for Young Minds.

2022/ 23 Camphill Well Being Trust and Mistletoe Therapy .

This has been suggested by one of our Regional Reps as the Trust is currently helped his wife with cancer care.

Mistletoe therapy is a complementary therapy for cancer care widely used throughout Europe where it is available in GP practices, specialist cancer centres and hospitals. It has an excellent safety record and its benefits include improved quality of life and well-being for cancer patients. Despite this, it is little known in the UK. It is administered by the Camphill Well Being Trust based in Scotland and the Register raised funds to help.

For more information go to www.mistletoetherapy.org.uk and www.camphillwellbeing.org.uk.

Camphill wellbeing Trust is a registered charity in Scotland no. SC016291.
